Review: The Secrets Sisters Keep by Sinead Moriarty

The Secrets Sisters Keep by Sinead Moriarty
Release Date: 31st July 2014
Publisher: Penguin Ireland
Genres:  Contemporary Fiction

Sinead Moriarty's delicious tenth novel, The Secrets Sisters Keep, is the story of three sisters, three life-altering problems and one eternal truth: nobody knows you quite like a sister!

Sinead's writing mixes the worldly wit of Jane Green with the down-to-earth warmth and insight of Marian Keyes and will remind people just how important their sisters - and their friends-who-are-like-sisters - are to them.

The Devlin sisters rely on each other - but some things are just too painful to share, even when your sisters are your best friends ...

Mum-of-four Julie thought that if her family had more money, life would be easier. But now that they've inherited a fortune, her problems are only starting.

Lawyer Louise is used to having life go exactly as she wants it to. So accepting that she cannot control everything in her world is beyond her.

And former model Sophie can just about cope with getting older - that's until her ex-husband finds a younger model.
All three women think that some battles are best fought alone. Maybe they need to think again ...

Thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy of this book for an honest and unbiased review. The book has been on my TBR pile for ages so apologies. This is an amazing book that I simply adored! I loved exploring the dynamics between the three sisters and despite their different lifestyles, attitudes and secrets they are bound together forever by their unfaltering love for one another. Every woman reading this book can identify themselves within each of the sisters. There is a little bit of each of them in each of us.

Every hassled mother can identify with poor Julie who is desperately trying to keep on top of managing her manic family. With triplets and a younger child, Julie's life is a whirlwind of school runs and trying to keep her unruly triplets in line. A job harder than herding cats!  A fantastic inheritance helps the family enormously but Julie can't help yearning for her old life and old friends. Despite having no more money worries, Julie becomes concerned for the her marriage and is feeling hassled and bullied by the school gates gang! One lonely wife and mother who feels unwanted and undervalued can only lead to her doing something she is going to regret.

Former model Louise epitomizes every woman who fears getting older. Desperate to find love after her marriage breaks up and her ex husband finds a younger, trendier and newer model perfect Pippa, poor Louise feels she is also losing her daughter to this obnoxiously seemingly perfect woman.

I liked Julie as we had a lot in common. She is a busy single mum who expects nothing but perfection from her staff and everyone else around her. However, Julie's perfectly ordered life is going to go through a huge change and something she could not have predicted. Julie soon finds that she must change her way of thinking if she is to help her little girl and understand her world better. I felt sad for Julie because I knew what was ahead of her.

This is a very well written book with great characters and a host of fantastic supporting characters who all add fun, laughter and sadness to the story. I think I fell in love with Gavin, brother of the three sisters who surprises everyone in the end. Funny at times. Shocking and lots of OMG moments that made me cringe, I loved the interaction between the sisters. What a wonderful family Sinead Moriarty has created in this book.
