Author Interview

Name? Alli Sinclair

Do you write under your real name or is this a pen name you use?

 Real name

Where are you from?

 Australia

List 3 interesting facts about yourself.

1/ I used to work as a mountaineering guide in the Andes Mountains
2/ When plotting a book I write the ideas down in Spanish
3/ No matter how hard I try, I can’t whistle!

What was the first thing you ever had published?

Luna Tango in 2014. It was published in Australia by Harlequin and was released worldwide in 2016 under the name of Midnight Serenade and is published by Kensington Books.

Do you have a writing routine?

I write five days a week while my young kids are at school and if I’m on deadline I also write once they go to bed.

Do you have any writing rituals?

I’m afraid I’m a bit boring and don’t have any rituals! I just sit down and hope that the words I’m putting on the page make sense!

Where did the idea for your most recent book come from?

Under the Spanish Stars came about because I loved the idea of setting a story in Granada, Spain. It’s such a beautiful city and is so rich with culture and history—it is the perfect place to weave a story of intrigue and romance.

Who was the first person you shared your book with?

I shared Under the Spanish Stars with my critique partner, Heidi Noroozy. We’ve been critique partners for years and know each other’s writing really well and don’t have a problem telling each other if we think an element of the story needs some work!

Do you have a current work in progress?

I have quite a few projects on the go and I’m planning as far ahead as 2019 at the moment! I’ll be writing more women’s fiction but I’m also going to work on a series of Middle Grade books that I am very excited to write.

Do you have any advice for budding authors?

Never give up and surround yourself with people who support you. Writing is rewarding but there are times when it can be very tough and the desire to give up can take over. Don’t be disheartened by the no’s you receive from editors or agents as every writer, including ones as successful as J.K. Rowling and Stephen King, have had their work rejected many times over. Imagine if they had given up just before they got the big “yes”? The best way to get through the tough times is to keep writing and also talk with friends and family who support what you are doing. Other writers understand the trials and tribulations of the publishing journey, so don’t be afraid to express how you’re feeling because chances are, the person you are speaking with has felt the same as you at some stage and together, we can help each other when we hit those moments of self-doubt.
