A wallflower's time to shine

The Earl of Shalford needs to marry into money to save his estate. Wealthy and beautiful Henrietta Buxted should be the perfect candidate. So why does his eye keep wandering to her quiet cousin, Charlotte Wyncroft?

Charlotte watches Henrietta's games of courtship with wry amusement. That is, until a stolen dance reveals a hidden side to the earl. Penniless Charlotte knows she's far from a suitable match, yet, in Adam's arms, she can dream of the happily-ever-after she's always wanted!

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Today I'm thrilled to welcome a lovely author from my very own Northern Ireland! I met Catherine Tinley at a recent Romantic Novelists Association Chapter meeting and I'm so happy she agreed to appear on the blog.

Name?  Catherine Tinley

Do you write under your real name or is this a pen name you use?

This is a pen name

Where are you from?

Newry, Co Down

List 3 interesting facts about yourself.

Ooh – I volunteer for a large charity for parents. I won a Civic Award for my coverage of sports on internet radio. And I used to be a speech & language therapist. There! Are those interesting enough?

What was the first thing you ever had published?

This book, Waltzing with the Earl, is the first thing I’ve ever had published. First thing I ever sent to a publisher, in fact! It’s such a thrill to have an actual book that I can hold in my hands!

Do you have a writing routine?

Sigh - I wish I did. I fit it in around all the other things in my life. I work full time so the writing is done in the evenings and at weekends.

Do you have any writing rituals?

Not especially. I use my laptop, and my desk is by the bedroom window. I love working in natural light.

Where did the idea for your most recent book come from?

I was wishing that Georgette Heyer had written more Regency books, then an idea popped into my head for a Cinderella story, set in Heyer’s Regency world.

Who was the first person you shared your book with?

My husband, Andrew. Romantic novels aren’t really his thing, but he liked it and encouraged me to send it off.

Do you have a current work in progress?

I’ve just submitted the final version of my second book. It’s called The Captain’s Disgraced Lady, and will be out in December. So I’ve started work on book 3.

Do you have any advice for budding authors?

Funny, I was discussing this recently with a group of other writers. The key thing I’d say is don’t discard a project that you’ve had feedback on. Rework it, based on what they’ve told you, and try again.
