Nice guys don't kiss like that ...

Do nice guys stand a chance?
Lizzie Donavue went from being the sister of his best friend to the girl Nick Templeton most wants to kiss. On her birthday, he finally summons up the courage to make his move. But it looks like Nick’s missed his chance when he discovers that Lizzie has been offered a modelling contract, which will take her away to the glamorous fashion scenes of New York and Los Angeles.

Nick is forced to watch from the sidelines as the gawky teenager he knew is transformed into Elizabeth Donavue: top model and ultimate English rose pin-up, forever caught in a whirlwind of celebrity parties with the next up-and-coming Hollywood bad boy by her side.

But then Lizzie’s star-studded life comes crashing down around her, and a guy like Nick could be just what she needs. Will she take a chance on him? Or is he just too damn nice?

Too Damn Nice is one of those books that completely caught me off guard. I knew it was a contemporary romance but hadn't quite banked on how emotional the book was. I think the cover lead me into a false sense of security because Too Damn Nice is a book with some quite serious subject matters in it and it certainly made me sit up and take notice. Here's why I loved it!

Lizzie Donavue is a beautiful English rose and with just the perfect look to be snapped up, at only 18 years old by an American modelling agency. Nick Templeton, her brothers friend is madly in love with her. He's a little older but on her 18th birthday Nick reckons now is the time to tell her how he feels about her. However, the bombshell that she is going to America soon puts a stop to his plans. He's even further surprised when Lizzie has an unusual request from him. One which to Lizzie's annoyance, he turns down.

Fast forward a few years later and the glitzy and glam world that Lizzie has built around herself is no defence for the heartache that life throws at her. And, through the two most awful events in her life, Nick comes back into her life to help. When a boyfriend betrays Lizzie in the worst possible way imaginable Nick takes Lizzie back to England to try to seek justice and rebuild her life and career. However, his feelings for her are stronger than ever and it seems that Lizzie may have feelings for Nick. But, pride and fear of having their hearts broken prevent the pair from doing what their hearts really want. Head and heart at constant war.

Nick and Lizzie are one of those couples that make you want to scream! They are so obviously perfect for one another that at times I was frustrated by them and wanted them to get together. It was like a romantic tug of war at times with Nicky pulling one way and Lizzie pulling the other. Nick is too damn nice for his own good but he's exactly what Lizzie needs after a string of affairs with celebrity bad boys. Lizzie at heart is still that young girl who has had her heart badly bruised by an all consuming grief and now a creep of a boyfriend. She's hurting and reacting to that hurt rather than the feelings in her heart. Yet, Nick can relate to a few things Lizzie's feeling too but at times she's too caught up in her own despair. Too Damn Nice explores love, loss, grief and being able to forgive yourself. It's a brilliant book and I really enjoyed it. Nick is my new book crush. I'll take nice over bad boy any day!

ABOUT KATHRYN FREEMAN

A former pharmacist, I’m now a medical writer who also writes romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero.
With two teenage boys and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to buy a card (yes, he does), any romance is all in my head. Then again, his unstinting support of my career change proves love isn't always about hearts and flowers - and heroes come in many disguises.
