I was so thrilled to be invited to be on this blog tour and I'm so glad that I was able to read such a beautiful book. I mean, imagine being asked did I want to take part in the tour. Ummmm hold on a second while I jump up and down with excitement! Its Nicholas Sparks for goodness sake! Of course I did!
Every Breath is one of those books that almost leaves you gasping as your own breath hitches in your throat at the sheer enormity of the emotions the book brings to the surface. And I absolutely adored reading about how the writing of the actual book came about. I won't give too much away except to say I need to find a place like Kindred Spirit! A book that came about because of a real love story just added a little bit of extra magic to the writing.
Tru and Hope are two strangers who literally live a world away from one another. Tru, a bush guide from Zimbabwe comes to America to meet the man he believes might be his father. He stays in a beach house and finds himself alone for a few days before the planned meeting with his father. Tru has lead a sad and relatively nomadic lifestyle. His childhood, plagued by tragedy and a feeling of being on the outside of what is left of his family. He's disconnected from those around him except the wildlife and of course his son Andrew. He's a good man with a kind heart.
In the beach house next door is Hope. She's there to clear out her family holiday home now that her father's illness is progressing and also to attend the wedding of a close friend. Its a time spent in thought and reflection about her own family and about the floundering relationship she's been in for many years. She's feeling as though her life has come to a standstill and she wants more. She wants love and she wants a family. The sticking point however is that she's no longer sure her current on / off relationship can offer her any of this. She meets Tru quite by accident when he finds her dog limping and brings the dog to her. Despite their lives being so different, they hit it off immediately, each recognising sadness in the other.
I absolutely loved everything about this book. I loved the locations throughout. I have family in Zimbabwe so loved hearing all about the place. The location of the beach houses and the little communities around them were just amazing. Nicholas Sparks has really created a sense of time and place throughout, keeping the reader grounded and creating a sense of belonging and yet not belonging for both characters who are fighting their own personal demons. The depth of emotion in the writing is one that will leave you feeling a mixture of being up-lifted and of heartbreak. Feelings of desperation and having your breath taken away all at the same time. This book is a wonderful story of love that sweeps the reader away. It will make you stop and think about your own life and the decisions you made. A highly recommended read from me!
