Genres: Psychological Thriller

She told my little boy a secret and now he’s gone…

Tucking her little boy Ollie into bed one night, Sarah notices his beloved teddy bear, which she bought him when he was born, is missing and in its place is a new toy given to him by her ex-husband’s new girlfriend, Laura. When she asks Ollie about it, he begins to shift uncomfortably, before whispering ‘Laura told me a big secret and she said I can never tell you’.

Sarah’s heart sinks. But when she raises her concerns, nobody wants to listen. To everyone else, Laura is the perfect stepmother and Sarah is just the jealous ex-wife. But Sarah knew the moment she met Laura she couldn’t trust her, from her overly perfect stepmother act to the way she evaded questions about her own history.

Soon Ollie is asking to spend more time with his dad and Laura, and shrinking away from Sarah. Then, when she calls to him in the garden one day, Ollie doesn’t answer back. The garden is silent. Ollie’s sandpit is empty. Ollie has disappeared.

If you love a book that keeps twisting and turning, then you’ll love My Husband’s Girlfriend – it’s guaranteed to keep you up all night. Perfect for fans of Claire McGowan, Shalini Boland and Lisa Jewell.

Sarah is getting used to life as a single mum and determined to keep her relationship with Ollie's dad Steve as amicable as possible. She's also venturing into a new relationship with policeman Joe, an old friend from the past and someone that Sarah can begin to see a future with. Her ex also has a new relationship with the very timid Laura. But, there's just something that Sarah isn't happy about where Laura is concerned yet those who should be supporting her just feel she is being overly sensitive and a little neurotic, jealous of the relationship her ex now has.  After all, to everyone else, Laura is making a huge effort to be a good step mum to Ollie and bending over backwards to make him happy. Sarah however doesn't trust her and there are just too many secrets, too many lies and she becomes obsessed with finding out the truth. Ollie is her world and she has to trust the woman who will be playing a major role in his life. And to complicate her life even further, things between her and Joe become strained as she struggles to get him to take her fears seriously. To make matters worse, his ex wife has made an appearance and soon Sarah wonders if she'll ever really be truly happy again.

My Husband's Girlfriend is one of those psychological thrillers that is kind of like a pot of water sitting on the stove, quietly simmering away and then suddenly the story reaches boiling point! To say I enjoyed it was an understatement. The writing is absolutely spot on and totally snares the reader into becoming almost as desperately neurotic as Sarah is. I had total empathy for her though. I have been that woman!!

The clever way this is book is written is that its actually impossible to dislike Laura. She comes across as the perfect person you'd want in your child's life and yet even though little nuggets of information are dropped into the storyline that make you question her motives, you still have that sympathy for her and become totally caught up in her drama and her vulnerability. But, can we trust our own instincts here where Laura is concerned? As for her mother! Eurgh! What a horrible woman! Little Ollie however was just absolutely adorable!

This book kept me gripped right through to the end, dangling clues at me throughout. And, what an ending! I've always loved Sheryl Browne's writing and I feel it just gets better with every book she writes.  This was such an easy, uncomplicated read and not bogged down with too much information and too many twisty turns to confuse the reader but enough to make you question everything and trust no-one!  I absolutely flew through it! Brilliant read and highly recommended.
