Being a fan of L.H. Stacey's work I'm always excited when I have the chance to participate in a book tour for a new book. The Family Home did not disappoint and had what I would consider a pretty good opening prologue which instantly takes the reader's breath away. You are pretty much thrown head first into the story, which initially starts with a terrifying scene set 10 years previous and gives us a bit of a flavour of what is to come.

The book then moves forward to 2023 and we are introduced to Hattie Gilby who comes across as a bit of a loner and a very unhappy and haunted person. The news of her mother's declining health forces Hattie to return home to the family home and face the memories that she has spent so long trying to keep buried. She must push past her fears and face whatever secrets are uncovered. Secrets that have been buried for too long. Secrets that someone doesn't want revealed.

I found this to be an exciting read. A murderer still on the loose, a dying woman about to reveal all, suspicion and lies everywhere and not knowing who to trust made this a must read. While some of the characters are unlikeable, I find that actually this adds to the plot. Not everyone is there to be liked. And, I love it when a book takes me down one road and I end up somewhere completely different. This book definitely did that. With twists and turns throughout it will certainly keep you on your toes. A recommended read. Strap yourself in for a totally unexpected ending!
