A young, up-and-coming Swedish officer is suddenly and traumatically
forced into the role of victim, as his newly wedded bride is defiled and
murdered by pirates. In an exotic 18th century colonial setting, this novel
explores the psychology of trauma, dissociation and redemption. Set against a
political backdrop of the era, with revolution and romantic individualism
versus etiquette and conformity.
