AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Do you write under your real name or is this a pen name you use?

I’m writing under a pen name. I always used pen-names, once I even used a man’s pen-name.

Where are you from?

I come from a tiny country from the middle of Europe, Slovenia. It’s a beautiful country with lots to see in a little place; from mountains (Alps) from the North-West, to the lowlands in the East, some wonderful caves, hills (full of vineyards in the South and with the Adriatic Sea on the South-West. With only 2mio of residents.

Did you write as a child?

I did… but I was more a bookworm at that time…

What was the first thing you ever had published?

It was a short story in a magazine… Unfortunately I don’t remember the title.

Do you have a writing routine?

Not really. I’m writing when I have time; basically at night when my family goes to sleep. Being a full time working mother… might explain the rest.

Do you have any writing rituals?

Just waiting for the family to fall asleep… Then I find some music on Youtube and that’s it.

Do you have a current work in progress?

Yes I have. Another Romance, set in a different culture…

Where did the idea for your book come from?

For Racing heart the idea came through the years I was and am still watching F1 racing. I’m a bit of F1 racing fan and… well, there you go… that was the background… the ideas for the rest of the story… sometimes I ask myself that same question… (giggle)

Who was the first person you gave the book to to read?

It was a friend of mine – two actually – I’ve met on Facebook. We have known each other for – gosh… three/four years. I sent them the first rough draft of my 1st chapter with a question if it’s worth continuing with. They are both avid readers, both from UK, so their opinion was important for me. Not just for the story’s sake, also for the grammar part. Then both (Katie & Michele) said YES… So I did

Do you have any advice for budding authors?

I was asked this once… my advice is still the same: Write when you have the time and the desire to write. Don’t feel guilty when others seem to be writing more than you and writing more often. If you can’t write on a particular day or don’t have time – it’s just that and nothing more. And… toughen up. You’ll need a thick skin in the future.

ABOUT JUNE MOONBRIDGE

June Moonbridge has many names and many faces too. Although living in the area, she was born and raised in one country and is now living in another.

She studied economics, and quickly realised she hated it. Afterwards, she found herself working in mainly male-dominated businesses; at first in automotive and later steel products. She can choose the best steel for your project, but don't, please don't, ask her which lipstick to use.

She started to write in high school and was criticised by her teacher. Stubborn as she is, that didn't stop her. Under different pen names, she had stories published in magazines, and then went on to publish three books.

After having two children, and learning that her second child has autism, she married their father and carried on working. Work and family life left her with little free time. But the desire to write didn't die. When life somehow sorted itself out, she decided to write a novel in English and her first submission to Safkhet was rejected…

For what happened then, re-read the third paragraph, second sentence above...
