FREEDOM'S CHILD by Jax Miller - A heart-stopping debut thriller about a woman named Freedom, who will stop at nothing to save the daughter she only knew for two minutes and seventeen seconds.
Call me what you will: a murderer, a cop killer, a fugitive, a drunk...There's a lot people don't know about Freedom Oliver. They know she works at the local bar. They know she likes a drink or two. What they don't know is that Freedom is not her real name. That she has spent the last eighteen years living under Witness Protection, after being arrested for her husband's murder. They don't know that she put her two children up for adoption, a decision that haunts her every day. Then Freedom's daughter goes missing, and everything changes. Determined to find her, Freedom slips her handlers and heads to Kentucky where her kids were raised. No longer protected by the government, she is tracked by her husband's sadistic family, who are thirsty for revenge. But as she gets closer to the truth, Freedom faces an even more dangerous threat. She just doesn't know it yet.
If you
like your thrillers gritty, no-nonsense and gripping then you will enjoy
Freedom's Child. Freedom is the epitome of a woman who has been wronged, hurt
and is still hurting. Freedom's life is a sad and solitary one where she is
caught up in her own heartbreak and bitterness. Part of the witness protection
programme, we catch glimpses into Freedom's past and why she has become the
terrifyingly tough person she now is. A woman not to be messed with who is on a
path of self-destruction. But, at the crux of it all is the empty space in
Freedom's life where her children should be. Her heart has turned to stone but
there's still some hope for her. When Freedom's now grown up children are in
danger, Freedom does what any mother would do, she goes to rescue them and find
her missing daughter. But, Freedom does have people who care about her and want
to help her, if only she’d let them. Throw into the mix a cult, the odd psycho
and a race against time, Freedom's child is a cracking read that I'd highly
recommend. The language can be a bit flowery at times but it fits perfectly
with Freedom's lifestyle and environment. I loved this book! I read it on holiday and could not put it down! Amazing!
