Christmas is just around the
corner when Star begins working at Butterburn library, but not everyone is embracing
the spirit of the season.
Sixteen-year-old Arianna’s mock
exams are looming and she’s feeling under pressure. With her father living
abroad and her mother working three jobs, she doesn’t have much support at home.
The bank is threatening to
repossess Evan’s house, and he has no idea how he’s going to get through
Christmas with two children who are used to getting everything they want.
Patricia’s cliché of a husband,
after 23 years of marriage, has announced he’s moving out of the family home, and
moving in with his secretary.
Daniel is doing the work of three
people in his sales job, as well as looking after his kids and his wife. Pulled
in too many different directions, he’s feeling stressed out.
Can Star, the library’s Good
Samaritan, help set them on the path to happiness this Christmas?
Well, what can I say about this book that hasn't already been said? Reading it I could just feel the urge to put the Christmas tree up and gather my little family all around me! This is a lovely little book with many important messages throughout. Given that there are many people in the world for who Christmas only highlights their loneliness or the difficulties they are having in life, this book really brings home the reality of that. We just don't know what's going on in the lives of others and kindness always is the key. Each of the stories highlighted throughout contain problems that each and every one of us can relate to. Bringing real world issues into the spotlight but showing that love and compassion can go a long way, Susan Buchanan has woven a fantastic tale to help remind us of other peoples struggles and that sometimes all that is needed is the Spirit of Christmas and a huge sprinkling of love.
I simply adore the character of Star. What's not to love about that name! And, throw in a library and you've got a sure winner here with this book. I loved reading about the different characters and getting drawn into their lives and private battles. At times their stories were so sad that I wondered how on earth Star was ever going to be able to help them. Susan Buchanan has once again brought us another wonderful Christmas book. I loved the first book The Christmas Spirit but it is absolutely not necessary to have read this book to enjoy Return of the Christmas Spirit, although both are pretty amazing. This is a highly recommended Christmas read for me that must be read curled up on the sofa drinking hot chocolate with a dash of Baileys. Well that's how I read it!
