ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mick is a hopeless romantic who was born in England, and spent fifteen years roaming around the world in the pay of HM Queen Elisabeth II in the Royal Air Force, before putting down roots, and realising how much he missed the travel. This, he’s replaced somewhat with his writing, including reviewing books and writing a regular post at the www.NovelKicks.co.uk blog site.
He’s the proud keeper of a cat bent on world domination, is mad on the music of the Beach Boys and enjoys the theatre and humouring his Manchester United supporting wife. Finally, and most importantly, Mick’s a member of the Romantic Novelists Association, with the forthcoming publication of his debut novel The Season for Love

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

I'm absolutely thrilled to welcome Mick Arnold to the blog and to be supporting his first ever blog tour. I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Mick at the Romantic Novelists Association Conference in July. Lets get on with the interrogation  interview!

Do you write under your real name or is this a pen name you use?

I guess you could say that I write under my real name, though I use the initials of my first and second names. It was a difficult choice as though I know male authors in the romance genre, not many actually use their full, male name.

Where are you from?

English, born and not quite bred, in Newport Pagnell.

List 3 interesting facts about yourself.

I could sing you (probably a little off key now) about 90% of the lyrics to 90% of the songs by The Beach Boys.

I once woke up in the back of a truck on the beach at Tijuana, Mexico, with my previous memory being of drinking in a casino in Las Vegas, and no memory of how I got there, and with no passport. I was 20 at the time.

I own a cat that has designs on conquering the world.

What was the first thing you ever had published?

Officially, ‘The Season for Love’. I’ve self-published two very short stories on Amazon a few years ago, simply because I wanted to get them out there.

Do you have a writing routine?

No. I work weird shifts, so it’s pretty much as and when I can. More so at weekends at the moment though.

Do you have any writing rituals?

I have to have something on in the background. I can’t write in silence. Current faves are ‘Doc Martin’ or ACDC blaring away.

Where did the idea for your most recent book come from?

Half from a song I heard on Radio 2 on my way into work, then from an article I read in a medical magazine.

Who was the first person you shared your book with?

It was actually a colleague at work. I needed to find out if I was completely wasting my time.

Do you have a current work in progress?

It’s called ‘Knicker Shopper Glory’. Probably about 2/3’s done now.

Do you have any advice for budding authors?

Likely the same as all authors give. Read, read, write, read and write. Not always in that order. Oh, and if you happen to spot a four-leaved clover, don’t forget to pick it up.
