A Little Christmas Spirit by Susan Buchanan
Series: The Christmas Spirit Book 3
Release Date: 12th November 2024
Genres: Women's Contemporary Fiction / Festive read.

Can a sprinkle of magic heal broken hearts this Christmas?

With Jacob now at the helm at the cosy Sugar and Spice cafĂ©, it’s the perfect opportunity for Christmas Spirit Lara to weave her magic.

Fraser is floundering in his new role as headteacher as he grapples with guilt over having to place his beloved mother in a care home, leaving him feeling lost and alone during what should be a joyful time.

Meanwhile, school janitor Paul is torn between his desire to feel needed and the pressure from his wife to retire, dimming the season’s sparkle.

Valerie, overwhelmed by the demands of new-born twins, feels she’s not giving her other daughter enough attention. She needs a bit of me time and for her husband to realise the responsibility for the kids falls to both of them.

And Bella, heartbroken after her husband’s shocking request for a separation just a year into their marriage, longs to escape the memories of last year’s perfect Christmas.

Can Lara help them rediscover joy, connection, and the true spirit of the season?

A heart-warming journey filled with friendship, community, and a dash of holiday magic that promises to transform the lives of those in need of hope this Christmas.

It had to happen sooner or later. I had to eventually give in and read a Christmas book. And, what better book to kick off the Christmas period with than a new book by Susan Buchanan. A Little Christmas Spirit is the third book in the series but definitely don't let that put you off. Its as easy to fall into the story and characters as falling into a Christmas tree after one or two glasses of mulled wine. And, I think you should read all the books in this lovely series. Short reads, they are the perfect books to curl up in front of the fire with.

A wonderful story that follows a cast of characters, each with their own set of problems or issues and all their stories are so relatable. I have to say I did shed a tear one or two times, feeling the pain of some of the characters. Some of their own stories feeling all too familiar. The issue of loneliness during the Christmas period is certainly an issue that many people are familiar with and Susan Buchanan has given us characters that we want to hug, wrap in a blanket, gift them a book and make them a hot chocolate. I mean, who doesn't love swapping books on Christmas Eve. I absolutely loved learning about the Icelandic tradition of Jolabokaflod. I think everyone should do this at Christmas time!  Thanks to the perfect little Christmas fairy Lara who is a lovely little girl determined to bring everyone together with her infectious innocence and magical outlook, its so easy to get into the spirit of the season.

I'm such a fan of books that bring together communities and have within those communities characters that really come to life. Susan Buchanan is brilliant at inviting us into these communities with a lovely, warm writing style. Get out there and grab this book. You won't be disappointed. I'm now feeling the need to go and pull the Christmas tree out of the loft. My husband will be thrilled!
