Brook Cottage Books is thrilled to have Jim Webster on the blog talking about his book War 2.2 which is released today! Take it away Jim!

War 2.2, the second book about the Tsarina sector. Each book is 'freestanding' so you don't really need to read the first before reading the second. My bank manager would urge you not merely to buy both but to buy numerous copies for your friends and family as well. An action packed investigation, from Delta mud to the palaces of Merchant princes, Haldar is back in War 2.2
Haldar Drom is starting to worry. The long running insurgency in the Zala Delta suddenly starts to spiral further out of control. Who is arming the insurgents? How and why? Then a leading local politician who is using his influence to try and keep things calm is threatened with assassination. It's
obvious that things are moving to a climax.

All Haldar has immediately available is a third year university student who gets given a dissertation project she'll never forget; young journalist who he convinces to investigate the situation of the ground; and a retired marine librarian whose job is to keep the politician alive. As the nvestigation proceeds, from the mud of the Delta to the luxurious surroundings of the Drake Islands, Haldar comes to realise that he may be facing Wayland Strang's counter-attack. Faced with a coup d'état spearheaded by off-world mercenaries Haldar has to react quickly to stop a major war.

A short excerpt from the book

It was the phone ringing which woke Willon up. He reached for his pocket but the phone wasn't there. Neither was the pocket. Nor the jacket come to that. Willon suddenly discovered he was naked in a strange bed. This wasn't as common a situation as he liked to pretend but any faint hopes that things were about to improve were dashed by the smell of hospital and a male voice from the foot of the bed saying "Your phone?"
Willon opened his eyes properly and reached out his hand for the phone. The nurse, if such it was, was wearing a Gendarmerie uniform. The bed was in a bay with three others; the roof above him was curved and looked like it was made from ligni-steel honeycomb sheets. There was no natural daylight. He grasped the phone and pressed the button.
 "Willon Cartif here."
"Hello Willon, it's Haldar here. How are you?"
Willon sat up properly in bed. "My right leg is a bit stiff." He tried
moving it experimentally. "But seems to be alright."
"Good. How long does the doctor want you in bed?"
"I've not seen a doctor Haldar; in fact the last thing I remember was
getting out of the flitter."
"I can help you with that one. You took a shot in the thigh, probably a
spent round that had come through the flitter hull. You were losing blood,
but they soon patched you up and put some blood substitute in."
"Haldar, how do you know all this?"
"Simple, I watched your holo feed. You left the camera running and the staff
didn't switch it off. It's by your bed still filming."
