AUTHOR INTERVIEW
What
would appear as a ritual is actually a simple process for me. I sit in front of
the pc, listening to music or news broadcast on the radio while staring at the
screen until I come up with a satisfactory opening line. This creates just the
right kind of 'distraction' that helps me construct a scene in my mind while pretending
to be interested in something else. It lightens the pressure and makes the
writing process rather pleasurable.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Do you write under your real name or is this a pen name you
use?
Augustine: Yes, I write under my real name
Where are you from?
Augustine: I am an Italian citizen of African descent
List 3 interesting facts about yourself.
(1)
My father wanted me to be a lawyer, I chose journalism instead
(2)
I am an introvert, and though many consider introverts boring, I am actually a good humorist and have what some
call infectious laughter
(3)
I don't give the impression of someone who loves house chores but I
do, especially, ironing.
What was the first thing you ever had published?
A
short story for a human-interest magazine.
Do you have a writing routine?
Not
really, I love to write in the evenings since I have a day job.
Do you have any writing rituals?
Where did the idea for your most recent book come from?
My
most recent book is The Conspiracy of Silence. It was motivated by a play I wrote for broadcast many years ago—a
30-minute radio
play about a musician accused of a murder he did not commit. His sister, it turned
out, was the only person alive who knew he was innocent
though the evidence pointed to his culpability; her desperation to prove his
innocence, of course, was the core of the play. But
when it was aired, I felt that it was too short to convey the kind of emotion that should naturally accompany a tense plot such
as that, so I decided
to write a novel about it with all the powerful ingredients that were missing in the
play.
Who was the first person you shared your book with?
I
first shared it with my friends (collectively) since they are always curious about what I do in the evenings when
I’m not socializing.
Do you have a current work in progress?
Yes,
I am currently working on the first part of a trilogy that’s a blend of Literary and romantic suspense.
Do you have any advice for budding authors?
A
very simple advice - aim at the sky so you might hit the tallest tree.

BLURB
The
conscience of a town steeped in sexism, vanity and hypocrisy is pricked
by the brutal murder of a mysterious woman in a park in Los Angeles.
But the shock is transformed into a steamy, seductive when the body turns out to be that of Susan Whitaker, the flamboyant wife of the governor of California.
Soon,
a dazzlingly intricate shuffle of volatile links leads the police to
the delicate theory of a secret love/blackmailer, and to the indictment
of Benjamin Carlton, Hollywood's most influential black celebrity.
Then curious things begin to happen when Carlton's ambitious girlfriend, Rita Spencer, suddenly unearths the shocking secret that Susan Whitaker did not, in fact, exist. She little realizes
however that her discovery of this colossal fraud is a mere curtain
raiser to a chilling world of ugly skeletons dating back to the
assassination of a U.S. senator in a Washington
hotel sauna, skeletons connected to riveting sex scandals in high
places, skeletons the FBI and political kingmakers will kill
for...
