Moonlight Over Muddleford Cove by Kim Nash
Release Date: 30th March 2021
Genres: Romantic Comedy

When thirty-four-year-old Nellie Wagstaff loses her job and discovers her fiancĂ© is a cheating scumbag in a single day, she feels like the world has come crashing down. And that’s before the solicitor’s letter, along with a request to visit a place she hasn’t thought about for a very long time.

Heartbroken, Nellie escapes to the beautiful seaside town of Muddleford in Dorset, where she discovers she’s inherited more than she ever bargained for. Nellie never knew why her mother stopped talking to her sister, but now childhood memories of Muddleford come flooding back: long hot summers, the sea glistening beyond the sandy cove... and a stolen kiss with a boy called Jack.

Jack, now a devilishly handsome vet, has the local pet owners swooning over him, and as Nellie and he become close once more, and she gets used to gossiping with the locals and sipping wine at her beach hut with sand between her toes, she’s sure she can feel sparks flying once more. But just as she thinks she might be able to open her heart again, her newest frenemy, the glamourous Natalia, tells her a secret about Jack that changes everything.

Nellie will never know why her mother and aunt parted ways. She’ll sell the house, forget about Jack, and get back to real life. Because there’s nothing for her in Muddleford... is there?

An utterly uplifting and completely hilarious summer read about learning to trust yourself and of finding love and friendship in the least expected places for fans of Jessica Redland, Heidi Swain and Holly Martin.

Poor Nellie thought she had the rest of her life all planned out. She was about to be married in a few months and had a pretty decent job. The love of her life was feeling a little bit unsettled but Nellie wasn't too worried about that. After all, the stress of organising a wedding could do that to you. Then, like a bolt from the blue, he ends things with her and suddenly she finds herself alone. But for the help of her best mate at work, she wouldn't have been able to face even coming into work or face cancelling all the wedding plans. However, it seems that even work is no safe haven from her troubles and she soon finds herself unemployed too! She feels that her life has come to a standstill now and worries about money and how she is going to afford the rent on her own are all she thinks about. And then, a letter arrives and Nellie's life is about to change in ways she could never have imagined.

Nellie's aunt has passed away and left everything to Nellie. Suddenly Nellie has money, a house in the most beautiful location overlooking the beach and a beach hut. Not to mention a fabulous sporty car! And then there's Norman. Everyone needs a Norman in their life!

Nellie used to spend holidays with her aunt in Muddleford Cove and had always loved the place. Aunt Lil had been a strong, loving and caring woman who hid her own heartbreak.  However, a falling out between Nellie's mother and aunt Lil meant that Nellie had not seen her aunt since she was a teenager. Nellie has so many decisions now to make about her life but thankfully her childhood sweetheart Jack is on hand to help her out and still calling her Nellie-bum which I loved! Living next door, Nellie is grateful for his friendship and support but are old feelings resurfacing? Surely not after all this time. She's not 14 years old after all. But......just maybe. There's a big problem though. Jack has a girlfriend.

This was a great book that I really enjoyed. If I'm honest, I was really jealous of the opportunity Nellie had been given. I mean who doesn't want to inherit a house by the beach and the option to completely change your life!? Nellie finally has choices but such a gift even presents problems and some decision need to be made. Kim Nash has created a fantastic cast of characters to totally engage the reader. The dialogue and interactions between characters was natural and had a comforting aspect about it. It all just seemed to flow seamlessly.

The story was about more than love. It was about family and second chances. It was about not letting time run away from you and suddenly loved ones are not there and the opportunity to tell them how much you love them is gone. For me, Aunt Lil was such a central character and the physical absence of her clearly impacted all who had known and loved her, including Nellie. A super read and perfect for cosying up on the sofa with candles lit and a glass of wine on hand. Definitely a recommended read.
