- Waiting for Prince Harry by Aven Ellis - Author Interview and Giveaway
Wednesday, 7 May 2014
Brook Cottage Books is thrilled to welcome Aven Ellis to the blog to talk about her book WAITING FOR PRINCE HARRY.
Publisher Soul Mate
JB: Prince Harry
seems like an unlikely character for someone to fall for. Are you a little bit
besotted with the royal ginger yourself?
AVEN: I don’t
think it’s unlikely at all! Harry is fun, gorgeous, charming, does charity
work—I think it’s easy to see how
women would fall for him. In fact, loads of my friends (myself included) think Prince
Harry is pretty darn fabulous.
JB: Where did
the idea for the book come from?
AVEN: I thought
it would be interesting to have two characters from very different worlds
fighting the same inner conflict: fear.
JB: From start
to finish, how long did it take to complete the book?
AVEN: About six
months.
JB: Was Prince
Harry your first choice royal as the main character Kylie’s perfect man?
AVEN: There was
no other royal or celebrity I thought of for that part of the story. It was always Prince Harry.
JB: Did any of
the characters develop in an unexpected way or did the book progress much as
you’d planned?
AVEN: No. I do
extensive outlines before each book, and I pretty much know what is going to
happen from start to epilogue.
JB: You’ve been
writing fiction since you were 16 years old. What prompted you to follow your
dream?
AVEN: I love
writing so much that I can’t ever imagine not doing it. That’s what kept me
writing.
JB: You work in
television during the day. How many hours per week are you able to commit to
writing?
AVEN: About
three to four hours a week. That is why I have extensive outlines. So when I do
sit down to write, I’m not wasting any time. I know exactly where I’m going
every time I begin writing for the week.
JB: Do you have
any advice for budding authors?
AVEN: Write.
Keep writing. You might be rejected many times before a publisher buys your work.
You learn from every book you write, whether you publish them or not. And most
of all, write what makes you happy.
Thanks Aven for letting me interview you today. Lets find out a little more about the book.
Book Blurb
Twenty-four-year-old
Kylie Reed has always been a rule follower. Organized and cautious to a fault,
her dreams for life are often filed away for future use—when she has a house,
when she meets her future husband, when she has been at her visual display job
at a chic Dallas boutique longer...Kylie always has a reason for living her
life in the future, not in the present, and not living her life to the fullest
and reaching her dream of becoming a fashion designer.
The only
exception to rules, of course, would be running away with Prince Harry—Kylie’s
ideal man. A hot, fun ginger boy would be worth breaking all the rules for, of
course. And Kylie is sure Harry just needs the right, centering woman to
settle him down. But living in Dallas and not knowing Prince Harry make
this a non-option.
Or does it?
Because when
Kylie accidentally falls into the lap of a gorgeous ginger boy—yes, even more
gorgeous than the real Prince Harry—all bets are off. Could this stranger be
the one to show Kylie how to take a chance, to face her fears, and live in the
present? And could this stranger be the Prince Harry she has been waiting
for? Kylie’s life takes some unexpected twists and turns thanks to this chance
encounter, and she knows her life will never be the same because of it...
About the Author
Aven Ellis
has been writing fiction since she was sixteen. She studied communications at a
large Midwestern university, and after graduation, Aven worked as a reporter
for a community newspaper, followed by a stint at a public relations agency.
But
writing about city council meetings and restaurant franchises was not as much
fun as writing for young women trying to figure out
their careers and potential boyfriends. So Aven got herself a job in
television that allowed her to write at night. Connectivity is Aven’s debut
novel; Waiting For Prince Harry and Chronicles of a Lincoln Park Fashionista
(New Adult romantic comedy) will be published this year.
Aven lives
in Dallas with her family. When she is not writing, Aven enjoys shopping,
cooking, connecting with friends on social media, and watching any show that
features Gordon Ramsay.
