AUTHOR INTERVIEW
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Name: Dallas
Coryell
Do you write
under your real name or is this a pen name you use? I know it
sounds like a 1970’s adult film pseudonym, but yes…that is my real name.
Where are you
from?
Born and bred
in Tha Mitten (Michigan, USA)
List 3
interesting facts about yourself.
I’m also a
singer-songwriter, I have a weakness for 80’s movies and music, some people say
I have retro Bieber hair.
What was the
first thing you ever had published?
A poem called
“Last Cry”-written in middle school to sooth my broken pre-teen heart.
Do you have a
writing routine?
I always
start with the characters. The more
details, the better. I have found that
if I spend a lot of time in the beginning getting to know them, the dialogue
writes itself.
Do you have
any writing rituals?
I. MUST.
CHEW. GUM.
Where did the
idea for your most recent book come from?
Melody’s Key
is a story about hope and refusing to stop believing in love. It was a story I desperately needed for my
own personal life, and writing it seemed easier and more therapeutic than
endlessly searching for another book to express the things my heart needed to
say.
Who was the
first person you shared your book with?
My brother,
who is both an actor and a hunkish Jake Gyllenhaal clone.
Do you have a
current work in progress?
I have 4
stand-alone book projects, a novella and a Trilogy (part 1 of 3 complete) I am
currently working on. I include many
different genres in my writing, with a love story being the center of each.
Do you have
any advice for budding authors?
You will go
through so many emotions while writing, not the least of which will be
staggering self-doubt. Keep going. I believe one of the biggest keys to any type
of creative activity is to project your passion. Write something that has great personal
meaning, not necessarily something you believe will be popular or well
received. The most powerful art comes
from genuine emotion being felt by the artist.
